2022 Coast Range Estate Pinot Noir

2022 Coast Range Estate Pinot Noir
94 Points - Dr. Owen Bargreen

"The ‘Coast Range Estate’ is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA and is set at 700 feet, with a combination of volcanic and marine sedimentary soils. This comes off very tart and salty — but in a really good way. Rich loganberry and cranberry tones combine with salty kirsch and menthol notes on the palate. Refined and elegant, with pretty high red flower notes aromatically, this is showing really beautifully now even at two years of age. The terroir is evident in the glass and for my palate, this is the best ‘Coast Range’ bottling that winemaker James Frey has crafted yet." - Dr. Owen Bargreen

Wine Profile
Production Notes
2022 Vintage Notes: A cold spring and mid-April frost created a very late start to the growing season and delayed harvest. The threat of rain ruining a late harvest is ever-present in the Willamette Valley, but there's also the chance a dry, cool weather pattern creates incredibly long hang-times and correspondingly very complex and long-lived wines. Fortunately, the 2022 vintage was the latter with the sparkling harvest occurring from September 20th-30th; and the still wine harvest not beginning until October 1st and lasting until October 22nd. A thirty-two day picking window with perfect temperatures and no rain is very rare and produced some of the longest hang times we have ever seen. And long hang times produce exceptional wines.
